Fort Lauderdale, Florida fishing offers sportsmen numerous options based mostly on time of the year, and whether you choose to fish inshore or offshore.  Greater Fort Lauderdale, Florida fishing is one of the few areas in the world where both fresh water and salt water fishing are within 20 minutes of the angler. In addition to more than 200 fresh water species that can be caught in the county's lakes, there are deep water fishing fleets located in Deerfield, Pompano, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea and Dania Beach; and, each of the six cities that line the Atlantic coast plus four municipal piers. 

Among the variety of Fort Lauderdale, Florida fish are wahoo, cobia, sailfish, grouper, dolphin, mahi-mahi, bonita, shark, barracuda, kingfish, and swordfish.

Live bait kite fishing draws sailfish, kingfish, dolphin and other gamefish.  Drifting with live baits positioned at the waters surface sends distress signals that attract the target species of fish. Lines are also drifted from the down wind side of the boat at various depths to present baits to fish feeding below the surface. Trolling is another method of catching fish in this area. If conditions do not favor drifting live baits, they can be "slow" trolled to cover a larger area of open water. Trolling can also be done with rigged dead baits, artificial lures, or a combination of both.
