Top Five (5) Star Camp

Sekenani camp- Kenya

The Sekenani camp in Kenya visitors’ book is crammed with flattering superlatives and promises to return. Easy to see why. This small gem of a Kenya tented camp- offers luxury, comfort and personal attention wonderfully mixed with the adventure and excitement of being in the untamed African bush.

Sekenani camp- Kenya is just outside the national reserve (six kilometers from the Sekenani gate) It has a most unusual setting. From the dense vegetation and deep shade of a stream bed, you climb up to a dry glassy ridge. Here, 15 Kenya camp tents have been thoughtfully sited so that each has a view and is far enough from its neighbor to insure privacy. From your deck you might look down over marshy stream which attracts game, or up to the hills and plains beyond.

The Kenya camp tents are surrounded by natural vegetation and blend harmoniously with the scenery. The Kenya camp tents at Sekenani are amazing. They get votes for being among the most luxurious in Kenya. Raised high off the ground on wooden platforms, the Kenya camp tents are extra large with many generous screened “windows”. When you walk into the Kenya camp tent, you are struck by its bright airiness and most especially by the bathtub which is centered in the bathroom. Not what you expect under canvas. Nothing bashful or apologetic- a big, elegant bathtub with brass taps and individual gas water heaters.

Other quality touches are the fine wooden seats, beautiful hand-carved and painted chests with locks and handsome polished wood floors. The bedspreads and floor rugs are white, contributing to the light and spacious feel of the Kenya camp tent. A counterpoint to this “sophistication” is the absence of electricity. AT nightfall, hurricane lamps glow in the Kenya camp- tents. The dining area is built on another rise and faces a wide expanse of natural veld with hills beyond. To reach it from the Kenya camp tents you cross over a small ravine on a wooden bridge.

The dining/meeting space is a log and canvas structure with high peaked roof and completely open ends to let in air, light and distances. Extending beyond the covered dining area is a large stone terrace-a perfect place to sit and look for game or chat companionably around a log fire at night, listening for animal sounds and admiring the bight stars above.

A small attractive building of natural stone looks down over marshy pond. It houses a small shop with quality craft items and a large covered deck where you can relax while enjoying the many birds and with luck perhaps animal visitors.

The small size of this camp Kenya allows for great flexibility and privacy. Meal times and bush walks are arranged to suit. Attempting variety of special activities are offered at an extra charge. These range from private dinner parties or sundowners in the bush to game walks with an experienced Masai guide who will also tell you tribal uses of the plants you pass. Remember to ask about these activities if you are not briefed on them.

Accommodations at the camp Kenya in mara All Kenya camp tents have views and privacy. # 4 and 6 for open view and double bed.
