A Day-By-Day Diary

On Monday of week two of our California vacation, my husband, Randy played golf at Cimarron Golf Resort. I put in a load of laundry and sat by the pool which is conveniently located nearby. I'm working, but no one can tell it. I'm reading books of the author's I'm scheduled to interview on my upcoming podcast, Writers in the Sky: Lynn Andrews' book Writing Spirit, Dr. Meg Blackburn-Losey's book Children of Now. I finished Greetings from Jamaica, Wish you were Queer by Mari SanGiovanni on the plan. People probably wondered why I was giggling, but that book is so darn funny! I can hardly wait to interview her.

Tomorrow, I have an appointment with Dr. Evan Snyder at Burnham institute in La Jolla, California. He is writing the foreword for my book RIGHT TO RECOVER Winning the Political and Religious Wars over Stem Cell Research in America. It will take over two hours to get there and I really want to see the Pacific coast beach, so we are packing a bag and headed that way today. None of the inexpensive RCI "last call" weeks were available this week, so it will be potluck in finding a room for one night.

We wanted to enjoy a beachside view, so we took Highway 76 from Interstate 15 over to Oceanside and drove down the coast through Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar before arriving in La Jolla and Torrey Pines near San Diego. The weather was much cooler than I expected and it only took one step outside the PT Cruiser to tell me that I should have brought a sweater. I thought the beach would be warm in summer. It is in Florida! A few minutes on the beach with the wind blowing and I was ready to wrap up in the beach towel I was laying on. We took a video of the beach and headed for the car.

We found an economic place in Del Mar to stay for only $200 per night. It was an old Best Western and not very well-appointed, but it was clean. Clutching to my best friend/laptop I was eager to connect after being away from the Web for 24 hours. I was disappointed that they had no Internet service in the room. I don't recommend staying there if you are addicted to the Internet as some folks are-so I've been told.

I had brought along my new Indian-embroidered outfits, but they were all sleeveless. Here I was with nothing to wear again. Randy had thought to bring long-sleeved shirts so I took one of his. It made a nice tunic over the three shirts I wore underneath. It was tacky for sure and I just knew the fashion police were going to arrest me in this high-class, ritzy town, but at least I was warm when we went out to dinner. We enjoyed a nice meal at Il Fornaio Cucina Italiana on the open-air cabana facing the water where the sun was starting to set. Everything was perfect.
